Gemma Williams

Paediatric Occupational Therapist for families in the Northern Illawarra

As a paediatric occupational therapist, I have dedicated myself to supporting families as they navigate the opportunities of early intervention for their child.

My approach is family centred and evidence based.

Paediatric Occupational Therapy may assist if you have concerns with your child reaching developmental milestones, if they have fine motor challenges or their play and life skills are difficult.

Sensory Processing

Every individual perceives their sensory world differently and uniquely. These perceptions impact an individuals sensory responses in everyday life.

The Sensory Profile is a useful tool to identify sensory differences and responses in children and how these may be impacting daily routines. The profile provides a basis to guide therapy goals and intervention.

Handwriting Intervention

I have extensive experience helping children with handwriting difficulties. With appropriate assessment, the underlying skill area deficits can be identified and amazing outcomes achieved. Underlying visual perceptual and visual motor skills can be formally assessed. Handwriting legibility (formation, placement and sizing of letters), speed and biomechanics are all areas I can target through specific intervention.

Comprehensive Assessments

I provide assessments from observational based screening through to a full standardised developmental assessment. Assessment needs are made in consultation with a child’s family and their school. It is based on their difficulties, needs and diagnosis. Assessment of the following skill areas may be necessary; fine motor skills, gross motor skills, handwriting skills, visual motor skills, visual perceptual skills and sensory processing skills.

A little bit about me

After graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy from The University of Sydney, I commenced my career in the public sector within Community Health and hospital positions. After a break to raise my own three boys, I returned to Occupational Therapy in the private sector, providing both clinic based and school based therapy.

My career has always focused on Paediatrics, with a family centred approach to my clinical delivery. I have experience with many diagnostic groups and employ both functional and sensory intervention approaches. Working as a part of a multidisciplinary team has been a major focus, enjoying the satisfaction of improved outcomes when working as part of a collaborated team.

I have a passion for helping all children to reach their potential and to be their best.
